PS. If you enjoy margaritas and/or tequila, you should go to Rudy’s. It’s really really good.
Gargoyles on the Square… Good eats April 19, 2007

I’ve lived near Gargoyles for a couple of years now but I hadn’t eaten there… until last night. And I’m recommending it. It’s worth going just to read the menu, nevermind taste it. For an appetizer I had the Kobe Tartar which contains crispy truffle mayonnaise. I’ll repeat that… Crispy Truffle Mayonnaise! I’d never heard of such a thing… Indeed, I hadn’t heard of many of the items on the menu. Everything I had was excellent. The atmosphere is such that you can go for a nice dinner or for something a bit more casual in the bar area. A great place to take a date. The food is a bit expensive but the wine list was affordable.
My one complaint is the beer list. It’s pretty abysmal. There isn’t any good excuse for not having a rotating tap… or a more interesting bottle than Sam Smith Nut Brown. Especially since Gargoyle’s next door neighbor is Downtown Wine and Spirits, home of innumerable types of good beer! They could literally stock a six of every beer that Downtown has…and send someone next door when they need to restock.
Regardless, go to Gargoyles, you won’t be sorry.
